Supported file formats

Which file types DOMOD accepts and what to do when a format is not supported.

What usually gets uploaded

Photographs — the main format. A phone photo is taken straight from DOMOD: from a task, from documents, or from a chat.

PDF — contracts, drawings, supplier specifications, product data sheets. The most reliable format for anything you will hand to the client: it opens everywhere and looks the same.

Office documents — estimates, spreadsheets, letters.

Naming files

In a project with a couple of hundred files, the name decides everything. Nobody will ever find IMG_20260415_113402.jpg.

A workable scheme: what, where, when. Bathroom_tanking_before_tiling_15-04.jpg.

This matters most for photographs of hidden work — those are the ones people will be searching for years later, and those are the ones usually named at random.

What is worth converting to PDF

Drawings and plans you hand to the client. Your design software's file will not open for them; a PDF opens on any phone.

What not to upload

Screenshots of a conversation instead of the conversation. If a decision was made in a chat, it stays in the chat.

Duplicates of the same file into project, stage and task. Attach the file from the project documents rather than uploading it again — otherwise in a month there are three versions of the plan and no way to tell which is current.

Heavy source files nobody needs on site.
