Projects, stages and tasks

How DOMOD is structured: projects, stages and tasks, who takes part in each and how data rolls up.

Everything in DOMOD sits on three levels: project → stage → task. Understand these once and the rest of the system follows.

Project — one property

A project corresponds to one property: a flat, a house, a unit. Everything belonging to it lives inside — documents, design documentation, specifications, conversations with contractors and the client, photo reports and the final passport.

The Owner creates the project and pays for it. Billing is counted by the number of active projects.

Two roles are assigned at project level: Managers, the people running the work, and the Client, the owner of the property.

One property, one project. Do not combine several properties into a single project. Their specifications merge into one, the Client starts seeing properties that are not theirs, and there is no way to distribute Managers and Workers across different jobs.

Stage — a group of tasks

A stage groups tasks that belong together: "First fix", "Electrics", "Bathroom". You decide how to divide the work — there is no fixed scheme, and there is no limit on how many stages you create.

A stage does two things on its own:

  • Builds a combined specification from every task inside it

  • Assembles a stage passport from the final reports of completed tasks

So thinking about your stages up front pays off twice: purchasing and reporting both come out structured.

Task — a unit of work

A task is what the person doing the job carries out. It has a name, a technical description, planned start and end dates, and assignees.

A task can have several assignees with the Worker role. The Manager adds Workers to a stage and then assigns them to specific tasks. A Worker added to a stage can see all the stage documents, the tasks of every Worker on it, and handle purchasing against the combined stage specification.

Inside a task you keep the material specification, documents, related tasks, and reports.

How it all connects

Data always travels upwards. A Worker fills in their task — the materials roll up into the stage specification, the final report becomes a section of the stage passport, and published stage passports build up into the object passport.

Nothing has to be copied across by hand.
