Downloading the passport as a PDF
How a client downloads the object passport as a PDF and what happens to access after a project is archived.
The Print button in the passport header generates a PDF.
What goes into it
The document as assembled: sections, texts, photographs with captions, attached images.
A draft can be exported too — you can generate a PDF before publishing to see how the document will look to the client.
Who needs it
The client — a file that stays with them permanently, regardless of the contractor's subscription, the project being archived, or anything that happens to the service. Worth saying out loud when handing it over.
The contractor — evidence for the length of your warranty obligations. In France that is ten years of décennale, and the document belongs on your own drive, not only in an account.
At sale — a passport raises a buyer's confidence and answers half the questions about the state of the services.
When to export
At the end of each stage — right after publishing.
At the end of the project — the full object passport, built from the published stage passports.
Before archiving the project — without fail. Archiving frees the subscription slot, and access to the web version afterwards should not be relied on.
What to do with the file
Give a copy to the client and keep one yourself. A filename with the site address and the date will still be findable in years; passport.pdf will not.
